New Poll: Drazan Leads in OR Gov Race Survey

September 28, 2022 – A new Clout Research poll shows Republican Christine Drazan leads Democrat Tina Kotek in the race for governor by a slim margin heading down the stretch to Election Day.

The survey shows Drazan with 38% support, compared to 35% support for Kotek. Democrat-turned-independent Betsy Johnson pulls 16% support, the survey shows.

This latest poll, like previous polls of the race conducted by Clout Research, shows broad dissatisfaction with the status quo, as 59% of Oregonians feel the state is headed in the wrong direction. Just 27% feel Oregon is headed on the right track, mirroring the disastrous polling approval numbers of President Joe Biden across the country. Clout has found similar dissatisfaction numbers for Governor Kate Brown in repeated polls over the past several months.

Drazan leads Kotek by a wide margin among unaffiliated voters, the survey shows, as Kotek wins just 16% support from independents, compared to a strong 40% support for Drazan among independent voters. While Democrats have dominated recent election cycles in Oregon, the turn of Independent voters against the Democrat in this race marks a turning point in a state as blue as they come, as economic and social concerns rise in the minds of voters.
